Ms. Rachael Zechmeister

Known as Ms. Z. by our students, I am grateful to be the English Language teacher for our vibrantly diverse Mitchell Mustang community. Originally from the Detroit area, I relocated to Ann Arbor in 2022 when I joined AAPS after living abroad for nearly a decade.

My career as an educator began in 2007. I have held a variety of teaching roles across 4 countries, such as IB classroom teacher, Spanish teacher, and English Language teacher. From the classrooms of Detroit to international schools in Turkey and Singapore, I have always had a passion for language acquisition and development, as well as the rich relationships that are nurtured when connecting across cultures.

I hold a Master’s of Education in Bilingual & Bicultural Education with a specialization in English as an Additional Language from Wayne State University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Spanish from Albion College.

When I am not supporting our multilingual learners at school, you can find me hiking, kayaking, hugging trees, camping and adventuring around the Great Lakes and all over our big blue planet.
