AAPS Leadership on the Issue of Student 安全 in Schools

  • The Ann Arbor Public Schools, under the leadership of the 教育委员会, has long been a leader in the work to keep our students, classrooms and schools safe and gun free. In April 2015, the AAPS enacted policies 5400, 5410, 5420 解决安全 & Disruption-Free Environment and Dangerous Weapon and Disruption-Free Zones. These district policies have been upheld by the Washtenaw County Circuit Court when on September 24, 2015 Judge Carol Kuhnke agreed with the district, upheld the policies and dismissed the plaintiff’s case. On December 15, 2016, the Court of Appeals issued an opinion upholding the decision of Judge Kuhnke. The Ann Arbor Public Schools case is anticipated to come before the Michigan Supreme Court later this spring.

Our commitment and determination are absolute and we will do everything in our power to always maintain a safe, 培养, comfortable learning environment for our children. The safety and well being of our children, 工作人员, parents will remain the focus and priority of our policies, 规定, daily practice throughout our district. The presence of guns in schools runs contrary to everything we hold dear in education, we believe it is counter富有成效的 to maintaining a rich, 富有成效的, healthy learning environment for our children.
